WILKA Schließtechnik GmbH

When Wilhelm Karrenberg founded his company – now called WILKA (WILhelm KArrenberg) – in 1865, railways had only been in Germany for 30 years. The motor car was yet to be invented. Trams were pulled by horses and the first ever aeroplane flight was still almost 40 years away.

Even back then, Wilhelm Karrenberg recognised the increasing demand for locks. He initially passed on his trade to his three sons, and eventually also management of the business. The company is still managed by the family today. Robert Schlieper is now the 6th generation to run the company.

The dedication that has been invested in the company for more than 155 years and the attachment to the products, which has grown over generations, is still evident; not only in the buildings, but also in the minds of the people.

The company is growing steadily, and since its 150th anniversary, the number of employees has increased from 245 to 294. From a one-man business with 8 employees in 1888, WILKA has grown over the past decades into a medium-sized company that plays a major role in its sector. However, the family atmosphere has been preserved in many places, and the managing director still knows every single employee by name.

“At WILKA, tradition and modernity go hand in hand. As much as we like to look back on the past and are proud of what WILKA and all its employees have achieved over the past decades, we are also looking forward to what lies ahead. Of course, we also rely on our partners, customers and suppliers. Together we have overcome many challenges and celebrated many successes, and together we will move forward step by step into a promising future.”
